![]() It’s challenging and can be adjusted to the user’s level, making it fun and enjoyable or turning it into a 5* puzzle from your local bookstore. So, to conclude – Pixel Puzzle Makeout League is an inclusive puzzle dating simulator about puzzles and dating alien puzzle pieces. Reaction time was not what I wanted, so I played most of the game with the d-pad. Using my Joy-Cons felt a little sluggish, especially in the larger puzzles. Heck, you could even use a stylus for tablets of the Surface tablet and make your puzzles this way, making it a pretty enjoyable experience. Thanks to the Nintendo Switch port, you can even play this game with touch controls if that’s your preference. It’s fun, challenging, and surprising on the merits of its writing, its design, and its puzzles. Pixel Puzzle Makeout League is not a brightly colored front hiding sinister twists. This could be a side effect of working from home or just getting older (my wife would argue it’s the latter). After playing a few hours (and opening up some routes), my brain felt tired. Some of the cutscenes look straight from an anime, but it’s not a game that you can rush through. Pixel Puzzle Makeout League is gleefully, entirely itself. ![]() While I came for the puzzles at first, I found that they would be paced and placed at points during scenes that enhanced my enjoyment of interacting with the colorful characters. I found myself delighted throughout, and the puzzles are well integrated into the Visual Novel experience. The setting is earnest but never takes itself too seriously. The story, characters, and writing in this game are more profound than I thought when I picked this title up! The humor is quick, light, and rarely mean-spirited. Naturally, if you want to pick up a couple of the Dee Dee visual novels while you’re there on itch.Solve pixel puzzles, date superheroes, and save the day! Dating sim meets puzzle games in this romantic comedy adventure. These aren’t so much an endorsement (or piece of criticism) as they are a head’s up. ![]() Where I find the time to do actual reviews or other coverage, I will compose separate articles on the game in question. I highlight them as interesting based on the itch.io description and concept. In many cases these games will be unfinished or “in development,” but I’m highlighting them because they promise something special and are well worth keeping on the radar. With that in mind, I thought what might be helpful to readers would be if I did a brief write-up of interesting games that I’ve come across on itch.io each week. Discovery is a real issue when great ideas are buried among high school projects and nasty little efforts to scam a quick buck from players. What makes itch.io a little difficult at times is finding things that are interesting to play. It’s a true “art gallery” for game ideas and creative developers, and it should be celebrated for that. ![]() In addition, itch.io allows you to be transgressive, subversive, and downright dangerous. I’m a big fan of itch.io for the freedom and open platform that it allows for developers to be creative, experimental, and directly canvas the audience for feedback for games that are not yet ready for primetime on Steam and its ilk.
